Billy Mello, an Emmy-nominated audio innovator with over three decades of experience, continues to pioneer the frontiers of immersive sound.
As one of Brazil’s most respected DJs and music producers, Mello built a formidable foundation in the industry, spending 15 years as the resident DJ for “Caldeirão do Huck” on Brazil’s largest television network, Rede Globo, reaching 20 million weekly viewers across 115 countries.
Since relocating to Europe in 2015, Mello has evolved into a leading spatial audio expert, designing groundbreaking audio experiences for virtual and augmented reality. His work on the Emmy-nominated VR documentary “You Destroy. We Create” showcased his mastery of 360° audio design, while his implementation of a 5th Order Ambisonics system for Factory Berlin’s Interactive Room in 2019 demonstrated his technical prowess with a 64-speaker array.
Currently, Mello serves as a Creative Leader and a freelancer in Sound Design and Music Production, and as CEO & Co-founder of LAIFE, an innovative platform developing AI-driven music generation for mental health applications.
Combining his expertise in spatial audio with cutting-edge AI technologies, he creates personalized functional music experiences that address anxiety, depression, and burnout through his proprietary Emotitone Concept methodology—a revolutionary approach that maps emotional responses to musical elements.
Recent projects include developing Ambisonic audio systems for “Shattered” on Meta Quest 3 and consulting on technical audio implementation for immersive media developers worldwide. A professional musician who plays piano and keyboard, Mello brings his rich musical background to every project, having previously worked with artists such as Beyoncé, for whom he was selected as the opening DJ during the Brazilian leg of her MRS CARTER world tour.
With fluency in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and working knowledge of German, Mello bridges cultural and technological boundaries to create emotionally resonant audio experiences that transform how we perceive and interact with sound in immersive environments.
